Case Study 8 A Large Minnesota Hospital
A strong foundation that lowers total cost of ownership.
Pro-Tec was called upon by one of Minnesota’s major healthcare systems that were entering a period of significant technology upgrades. They needed an access control platform that could utilize one credential for access control, single sign-on, multiple payment systems, and provide an open-architecture platform for future needs.
The Challenge
The organization was deploying and maintaining a system that cost nearly $9,000 per door. Finding a system that would save them substantial money on deployments over the long-term was easy, but finding a system that would integrate with the payment systems currently in place as well as the single sign-on platforms they were evaluating was difficult. After meeting with all stakeholders involved and potential software manufacturers, it was determined that Lenel Systems would provide the foundation the organization was seeking.
Our Solution
Pro-Tec Design was able to upgrade a system of 125 card readers across 12 facilities without any of the 12,000 employees ever knowing it happened or experiencing any downtime. We worked with team members from information systems, facilities, security & safety, and maintenance to accomplish this task. Today, that same platform has allowed the organization to grow to over 1,000 card readers with 15,000 users and 40 facilities.
